    The Surety Service Assistant is responsible for entry of statistical information and computing of premiums is required for all lines of the surety business using the bonds system to generate a legal contract for the principal. They will assist the underwriters in handling phone calls, information gathering and correspondence with the agents as well as decide which files to refer back to the underwriter for review.  The primary goal is to produce quality technical assistance to principals, obligees, agents and coworkers and to meet service standards. 


    • Partners with Underwriters to establish support needs for new and renewal policies (i.e., identify and gather relevant account information to quote or issue bonds)
    • Coordinates surety processing and servicing
    • Receives and completes processing requests from underwriters and agents
    • Process new surety business and renewals in the surety system.
    • Accurately enter information into the surety system to generate applicable forms and premiums. This includes updating renewals, riders, cancellations and bond forms.
    • Respond to agent’s request and handle routine telephone inquiries from agents, principals, obligees, underwriters and other departments.
    • Assist underwriter with information gathering and written correspondence.
    • Obtain information needed for underwriting decisions, refer files back to underwriter per guidelines.
    • Set up bond files and purge outdated information and documents.
    • Work with and follow up with agents for any outstanding information
    • Provides customer service to agents to facilitate the processing of business; answers questions, resolves problems on topics such as policy transactions, billing, and service needs.
    • Provides administrative support and participates in ad-hoc activities as needed



    • High school diploma required
    • Institute Insurance Classes: AFSB 151, 152, 153 helpful


    • Minimum of one year of office or customer support/service experience
    • Prior surety or insurance work experience helpful.

    Knowledge, skills & abilities:

    • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent time management skills; the ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines, multi-task and prioritize workload, working in a high volume environment
    • Accurate data entry
    • Ability to provide quality customer service
    • Ability to solve problems by gathering and using different sources of information.
