    UFG Insurance is looking for an ambitious, career-minded individual with a strong financial aptitude and outstanding people skills for a professional internship in Surety Underwriting.

     

    As a Surety Intern, you’ll learn to produce and underwrite a profitable book of surety business by building and maintaining strong relationships with independent agents.  You’ll use your analytical and decision-making skills to evaluate risk and determine acceptability within company parameters. On-the-job training will help develop your ability to determine acceptability of surety submissions, perform analysis of financial statements, read applications, analyze credit reports, as well as learn to use other sources of investigation.  This program will teach how to work towards a profitable and controlled level of growth by servicing the existing business and meeting or exceeding the department annual goals and objectives. The program will also show how to make recommendations on existing accounts.

     

    The schedule is from 8:00AM – 4:30PM Monday - Friday during the summer months of 2019.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Update and keep files current.
    • Observe the underwriting process by Annual Review of Financial files.
    • Travel to agencies.
    • Develop marketing material – change to Assist with marketing activities.
    • Systems training.
    • Observation of other departments.
    • Learning the basics of the components making up commercial surety, help process commercial surety business.
    • Perform special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must have completed Junior year of college with major emphasis in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or Economics are preferred.
    • Candidates must have effective analytical, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to perform fundamental financial analysis and willingness to travel.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
