    UFG is seeking a Regional Production Underwriter in the Kansas City Area to write profitable business for the region. This person will have the opportunity to strengthen the presence for UFG in area and build strong relationships with the independent agency force.

     

    We expect this person to support our corporate mission of providing exceptional service and insurance protection for businesses, families and individuals.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills to evaluate new submissions for acceptability within company underwriting parameters. Visit insured’s and potential insured’s place of business to better access acceptability and aid agent in the placing of commercial accounts. Make regular agency calls to assess growth and profitability of agents in their territory. In conjunction with marketing you may be called upon to perform the following:

    • Prospect and appoint new agents in the territory
    • Assist agents in answering questions and requests
    • Promote a good image for UFG
    • Provide good service
    • Submit weekly call, itinerary and expense reports in a timely manner.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Review applications, MVR’s Experience Mods, Loss experience, Loss control reports, Product brochures for risk acceptability.  May consult management, other underwriters, and Best Guide. Review applications, endorsement requests and renewals for limits and coverages requested.
    • Ask good questions when agent inquires if risk is acceptable.  Select critical information needed.   Review daily claims sheet. Work with marketing to monitor production and loss ratio for each agency.
    • Regular visits made to agencies and insureds.  Aid agents in placing new accounts. Quote additional coverages.  Agency reviews.  Certify policies. Recommend coverages, rate changes and provide feedback to management on what is happening in the marketplace, agencies and competition. Prospect territory looking for new agency appointments.

    • Insure risk is properly classed. IRPM’s, experience rating of judgment rates when necessary.  Place risk in the proper program.  Review renewals. Work with agents and CSR’s to obtain a saleable program for the agent/insured while avoiding adverse selection against United Fire.

    • Submit call reports. Establish an itinerary and turn in expense reports

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Four-year college degree or equivalent insurance experience with the INS (General Insurance) designation,
    • Five or more years of commercial lines underwriting experience
    • Risk evaluation skills and solid insurance contract knowledge and
    • Effective communication skills, good negotiation skills and excellent human relations skills.
    • The ideal candidate must have their CIC or AU designation or is making significant progress towards earning the CPCU designation.
    • Must have valid driver's license
