    UFG has an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start their professional career in safety and insurance. UFG is looking to fill a loss control trainee position. This is an entry level position that will provide the training and expertise to grow into a loss control representative. The trainee is given a combination of on-the-job training and internal and external education.

     

    Responsibilities

    • The on-the-job training is conducted with the Company’s Loss Control Representative and/or Sr. Loss Control Representative by observation, teaching and practical hands-on instruction. 
    • The Trainee will learn how to: 
    • Conduct on-site review of insured’s premises and operations; 
    • Evaluate organizational, administrative & technical issues to control loss exposures; 
    • Identify and report hazards that create loss exposures to property, workers compensation, auto, and general liability coverages; 
    • Analyze loss records to identify potential root causes or loss trends.  Reduce loss exposure through risk improvement recommendations; 
    • Perform continuing service on designated accounts; 
    • Conduct safety meetings & presentations to insureds and agents.  
    • The education side of the training includes obtaining knowledge in areas such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), General Industry and Construction Regulations, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), FMCR (Federal Motor Carrier Regulations), understand building construction classifications and building appraisal applications, understanding of workers compensation, liability, property and auto coverages and exposures which may lead to losses and how to reduce/correct the hazards.      

    Qualifications

    • Four year college degree in occupation safety or an equivlent safety related program.
    • 1 - 2 years of loss control or safety experience, preferred
    • Working toward completion of CSP, ARM, or OSHA/Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH) program.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. 
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. 
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, agents, company staff and general public.   
    • Good communication skills and negotiation skills. 
    • The ability to organize and prioritize work schedules. 
    • Must possess the work ethic and personal discipline to work in a virtual office situation, without direct, daily supervision. 
    • Performance will be both quantity and quality based with each written report reviewed during their trainee status.
