Overview

UFG offers an internship program that is intended to promote a college students interest in pursuing insurance as a career choice, and possibly for a position within UFG upon their graduation.

The UFG internship program is designed to develop first-hand knowledge in commercial insurance coverage and underwriting in a professional environment through on-the-job learning with our employees.  This paid Spring and Summer program gives the student business and technical skills they need to understand the core of our industry and to possibly launch their future careers as a successful UFG employee.

Responsibilities

The selected interns will have an opportunity to compliment what they’ve been learning in school by receiving valuable onsite training, gaining practical experience, and learn more about the insurance industry as a whole.   Our program will introduce the interns to career opportunities in commercial insurances through departmental rotation – working their way through the stages of insurance starting with Marketing and moving on to Loss Control, Underwriting, Support Services and finishing with Claim Adjusting.  Over the course of this program, each intern will be expected to complete specific tasks and assignments from the trainers in each department to further develop the interns’ knowledge and skills in the insurance industry.  The most amount of time will be spent in our Underwriting & Support Services Department.

Underwriters are the Heart of the Insurance Industry

Insurance is the contractual transfer of financial risk from one party to another.  Commercial underwriters are financial professionals that evaluate the level of risk associated with insuring a current or prospective policyholder with business insurance policies.  The underwriter uses that information to accept or decline the risk of insuring a company or organization and to set the premium for those that are accepted.  Underwriters are more than just analysts – they must manage a profitable book of business by building strong relationships, and working closely with, independent agents.  Successful underwriters have a special blend of analytical and marketing skills.
