Overview

 

UFG is looking for a Senior Tax Specialist who will be responsible for the preparation of current and deferred tax provision for the monthly statutory financials and for the quarterly AAP financials, assisting in all aspects of the process and preparation of the supporting workpapers. Responsible for the preparation of the consolidated federal tax return and the preparation of the quarterly tax prepayment calculations and the remittance of the federal tax to the IRS. Responsible for responding to internal and external auditor questions. Responsible for researching tax questions and working on tax projects. Will work with both internal and external sources to ensure proper reporting of tax financial data. Looks for potential areas of improvement and adhere to established internal controls.

 

Responsibilities

Duties will include:

  • Preparation of monthly current and deferred tax provision for the Statutory financials.
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual statutory tax footnote.
  • Preparation of the audited statutory tax workpapers.
  • Preparation of quarterly current and deferred tax provision for GAAP financials.
  • Preparation of quarterly Mercer tax workpapers for Mercer Historical GAAP financials.
  • Preparation on annual report tax footnote.
  • Preparation of the federal tax return.
  • Preparation of Tax-to-Provision Workpapers for Statutory and GAAP provisions.
  • Preparation of Carryback Claims for Net Operating Losses or Capital Losses
  • Various Forms Oversight and Compliance
  • Tax projects, research, answer tax questions.
  • Coordination of IRS tax audits.
  • Responding to IRS Correspondence
  • Coordination of state tax audits

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent education/experience.
  • 5 to 10 years related tax experience.
  • Knowledge of tax law
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and complete work within established deadlines, willingness to embrace new projects, ability to work individually and within a team, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of insurance accounting preferred.
